Abstract

Sorption studies of copper (II) phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic sodium acid (CuPc) was done using a batch method with TiO2 powder as the adsorbent, and several variables such as initial concentration of the dye, contact time and TiO2 loading was determined. The sorption data were analysed using first order and second order kinetics, and the sorption studies were found to be second order kinetics. The data were also fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms and the equilibrium data fitted very well to Freundlich isotherm. The amount of TiO2 powder needed to remove CuPc dye from solution was also studied and it was observed that 19.86 mg g-1 of CuPc was adsorbed.
