Abstract

In this study, we targeted to find the drag on axially symmetric bodies of revolution of curve with the condition of continuously turning tangent vibrating slowly along axis of symmetry by using the expression of drag given by Kanwal [1] in terms of classical Stokes drag provided by Datta and Srivastava [2] and Srivastava [3]. Stokes drag is estimated for axially symmetric entities vibrating slowly along their axis of symmetry in a uniform axial flow of Newtonian fluid. The bodies of revolution that are axially symmetric are considered with the condition of continually turning tangent. The results of drag on sphere, spheroid are confirmed with the existing one in the literature while the drag on deformed sphere, egg-shaped body, cycloidal body, cassini oval, hypocycloidal are found to be new. As a particular case of deformed sphere, the numerical values of frictional drag on slowly vibrating needle shaped body and flat circular disk are been calculated. The idea presented in this paper may be exploited further to solve the problems of Oseen’s flow, quadratic flow, magneto-hydrodynamic flow etc.
