In the present study, a novel amino acid organic nonlinear optical material L-histidinium maleate has been successfully grown from aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation method. The structural arrangement of the grown crystal was determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis was used to determine the chemical composition of the grown crystal. The molecular structure of the grown crystal ascertained by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral studies. UV–visible spectral analysis was used to determine the percentage of optical transmission by the grown crystal. The band gap of the grown crystal was estimated from the optical absorption spectrum using Tauc relation. Kurtz and Perry's powder approach was used to identify the grown material's nonlinear optical characteristics. The surface morphology of the grown crystal is shown by HR-SEM analysis. Differential thermal analysis was used to confirm the grown crystal's thermal stability.
