Abstract

Several naturally occurring and synthetic compounds have been evaluated as trapping agents for M. domestica in laboratory and field conditions. Combination of rubber latex, liquid paraffin and jaggery was the most effective. Population density affected the catch significantly. An attempt was made to develop a cheap safe and effective sticky flypaper. The various steps involved in the manufacture of the flypaper like drying and heating were performed under natural sunlight thereby reducing cost to a great extent. The most effective formulation applied to card sheet was assessed under ambient conditions in oven at 45°C and was found to remain active for more than 8 months.
