Comparative studies on conventional, microwave and vacuum sintering of alumina added yttria
stabilized zirconia (YSZ) have been focused in this chapter. Microwave sintering was observed to be
the most efficient sintering technique when energy and time savings are concerned. Microwave and
vacuum sintered specimens showed enhanced densification at lower temperatures in comparison to
the conventionally sintered ones. The microwave sintered specimen showed the highest hardness
compared to the conventional and vacuum sintered specimens. Further, it was observed that the
particle size had a prominent role in controlling enhancement of densification.
