Abstract

Background: Green synthesis of nanoparticles is an affordable and safe way of synthesis as it does not use any harmful agents. Copper is well known for its intrinsic antibacterial properties, graphene oxide for its barrier and structural strength hence these were chosen to create a nanocomposite.

Aim: Aim of the study was green preparation and characterization of nano copper with nano graphene oxide nanocomposite characterization and antimicrobial activity.

Materials and Methods: Present study is an in vitro study. Nanocomposite was formulated using a green preparation method. Extract from amla fruit was used for the preparation of copper and graphene oxide nano-composite. Characterization for the prepared copper and graphene oxide nanocomposite was done using TEM scan and UV-Visible spectrometric analysis. The antimicrobial activity was assessed against the most harbored oral microorganisms. The inhibition zones were measured for: Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus mutans and Candida Albicans at various concentration for the antimicrobial assessment of nanocomposite.

Results: The nanocomposite showed excellent antimicrobial activity against three oral aerobic microbes at 150 µL concentration.

Conclusion: Within the limits of the study it can be concluded that copper and graphene oxide nanocomposite has promising antibacterial properties but further cytotoxicity studies should be performed, so that the composite can be incorporated into dental materials.
