Abstract

This paper focuses on the chemical synthesis and characterization of poly(2-chloro aniline-co-2-methoxy aniline) - blend - sodium alginate (poly(OCA-co--OMA)/NaAlg) using HCl as dopant and ammonium persulphate as an initiator. The copolymer blend synthesised is soluble in DMSO, DMF and CHCl3 and shows better thermal, and electrical properties when compared to the pure copolymer. FTIR and UV-Vis Spectroscopy, XRD, TGA and DSC are used to characterize the blend. The particle size as calculated using Debye Scherrer equation is of the nanometer range. The poly(2-chloroaniline–co-2-methoxy aniline)/NaAlg blend shows an electrical conductivity value of 2.15x10-4Scm-1 which is in the semiconducting range.
