Surfactants have the remarkable ability to solubilize water-insoluble compounds in aqueous surfactant solution. The present study is the solubilization of water-insoluble Sudan I dye (1-Phenylazo-2-naphthol) in micellar solution of cationic surfactant, DTAB via kinetic approach. The effect of surfactant concentration, temperature and addition of electrolytes (NaCl , Na2SO4, Na2CO3,) on dye solubilization were investigated. The results reveal that the solubilization of Sudan I dye in the micellar solution increases with the surfactant concentration, temperature and by the addition of electrolytes. However, the presence of Na2CO3 promoted the solubilization of dye in DTAB micellar solution significantly. The kinetic study showed that the solubilization of dye follows the pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. It is observed that the rate of solubilization of dye decrease with the increase of time.
