Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is one of the major risk factors for the cause of cardiovascular diseases which leads to 1/3rd deaths in the world. Hyperlipidemia refers to a group of inherited and acquired illnesses that are characterized by high lipid levels in the body. It has been established that high cholesterol and LDL in the blood are the primary causes of atherosclerotic arteries, while high concentrations of HDL in the blood are beneficial. Many drugs are available to lower the lipid level but they are associated with lots of side effects like myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, myalgia, and arthralgia, to overcome this problem there are many oral conventional dosage forms. However, there is a challenge associated with poor bioavailability. Bioavailability can be demonstrated as the extent and rate to which the active drug ingredient or active moiety from the drug product is absorbed and its availability can be found at the site of drug action. In order to overcome the bioavailability problem associated with less soluble drugs some novel drug delivery systems can be formulated as nanomedicines with novel nano techniques employed to enhance the pharmacokinetic parameters of the antihyperlipidemic drugs. The present review includes an overview showing recent studies on nanomedicines for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. This study concludes that the use of the latest ongoing treatment of hyperlipidemia has poor bioavailability which results in many side effects. However, the use of advanced technology treatment plays a significant role in pharmacy, which is said to be novel drug delivery system, and show targeted and controlled action with low doses of drug.
